I didn’t start with a clear plan. I just knew I wanted a different life.
I remember standing in a fabric store in Pretoria, cutting material for customers all day. We were not allowed to sit. Not even lean. Cameras were always watching. You just stood there and worked.
At the end of the month, I earned R3500 ($210)
It wasn’t just about the money. It was the feeling. That quiet moment where you ask yourself, is this really it?
That question stayed with me.
I tried to grow where I was. Took on more responsibility. Learned how to deal with people, pressure, and expectations. From the outside, it looked like progress. But inside, I still felt stuck.
So I started trying things.
I got into fashion. I started designing matric dance outfits. It was small, but it was mine. For the first time, I felt like I had control over something. I was creating, selling, figuring things out as I went.
Around the same time, I started exploring marketing. At first it was just curiosity. Learning how businesses grow, how people get attention, how ideas turn into income. That curiosity slowly turned into something more serious.
Then everything stopped.
When COVID hit, the fashion side collapsed. Events disappeared. Orders stopped. The small thing I had built started slipping away until it was gone.
I had to go back home.
That period was heavy. Not because I was doing nothing, but because I felt like I had lost direction. Helping out in my uncle’s store, trying to stay busy, but constantly thinking about what I was supposed to do next.
Then I got an opportunity.
Someone remembered me. Not because I was the best, but because I had shown enough for them to know I could do something. That was enough to open a door.
I took it.
I stepped into a role where I could actually grow. I started with design, but I did not want to stay in one box. I pushed into social media. Then into marketing. Then into strategy. I was learning, applying, failing, adjusting. Every day felt like building something, even if it was slow.
But outside of work, something was still missing.
I had skills, but no visibility.
I was doing the work, but nobody could see it.
And that realization hit harder than anything else.
There was a point where things slowed down again. No job, no clear direction for months. Just time to think. And that is when I started to understand something simple but uncomfortable.
Being good is not enough if nobody knows you.
So I made a decision.
I stopped waiting to be ready. I stopped overthinking. I started showing up.
I shared what I knew. What I was learning. What I was getting wrong. No big strategy, just consistency.
At first, nothing happened.
Then slowly, something did.
People started noticing. Conversations started happening. Opportunities started coming in. My LinkedIn started growing, slowly at first, then consistently.
Today, that audience is approaching 10,000 people.
Recruiters now reach out to me through LinkedIn and email.
Business owners and skilled professionals reach out asking for help with their marketing.
And the interesting part is this.
Many of them are highly skilled. Some of them are better than I was at the time.
But they are still being overlooked.
Not because they are not good.
But because someone else showed up first.
That is the reality.
Visibility is what creates opportunity.
And once that shifted for me, everything else followed.
I found myself in rooms I never thought I would be in.
Working with an international business coach generating over 500,000 dollars a year.
Being around people from different industries. Designers, SEO specialists, paid ads experts, coaches, business owners.
People making 10,000 dollars a month and more, not by luck, but by understanding how to position themselves, communicate their value, and stay visible.
I remember sitting in those spaces and realizing something.
I was not lacking skill.
I was lacking visibility.
And once that changed, everything started to connect.
I started seeing patterns. How the right message attracts the right people. How consistency builds trust. How positioning can change how people see you without you changing who you are.
That is when marketing stopped being something I was learning, and became something I understood.
Today, I help experts, brands, and businesses do the same.
I help them build visibility, strengthen their positioning, and create authority through content and systems that actually bring opportunities.
Because I have seen what happens when you get this right.
Opportunities start coming to you.
And when you reach out, you are not chasing.
You are choosing.
In many cases, they become the lucky ones to work with you.
I also built something of my own along the way.
Afroz Marketing started as an idea and grew into a real business. Today it runs with a team behind it, while I focus more on strategy and growth.
And outside of that, I followed another side of myself.
I started documenting my travels.
What began as something personal turned into Escapewith.AJ, a travel brand that has grown to over 90,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram.
Consistency creates momentum.
You do not need everything figured out. You just need to keep showing up.
Now I work from wherever I am. A coffee shop, a hotel, a different city. As long as I have my laptop and WiFi, I can build, create, and move forward.
But none of this happened because I had everything planned.
It happened because I kept moving, even when things did not make sense.
And if there is one thing I know for sure now, it is this.
You can have the skills. You can have the ideas. You can have the potential.
But if you stay invisible, none of it moves your life forward.
Things only started changing when I decided to be seen.
That is exactly why I built The Brand Authority Room.
A space for people who know they have something valuable, but are tired of being overlooked.
Because I have been there.
And I know what changes when you finally learn how to show up, position yourself properly, and turn your visibility into real opportunities.
If you are in that position right now, you do not need more information.
You need direction, consistency, and the right environment.
That is what I help people build.
Over nearly a decade, I’ve built deep expertise across the full marketing spectrum:
Personal Brand & LinkedIn — profile optimisation, content strategy, positioning, LinkedIn outreach, newsletter growth, ranking in AI search engines
Content & Copywriting — hooks, scripts, content calendars, trend forecasting, storytelling frameworks that convert
Paid & Organic Growth — SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads, creative ad design, funnel building, lead magnets
Email & Nurturing — email sequences, list building, segmentation, automation workflows
Strategy & Systems — offer packaging, pricing, positioning, SOPs for delegation, AI tools and automation (including n8n and prompt engineering)
If it touches visibility, leads, or growth — I’ve lived it.
I believe in full lives, not just full pipelines.
Outside of marketing, I travel — a lot. I’ve built a travel page (Escapewith.AJ) with over 90,000 followers combined across platforms, documenting the places, experiences, and moments that remind me why building a life on your own terms actually matters.
It’s also proof that the principles I teach work in any niche. Audience growth, content consistency, personal branding, community — same system, different world.
When I’m not building brands, you’ll find me somewhere new, with a camera, a good coffee, and zero regrets.
