#01 - Nobody Can Hire You If Nobody Knows You Exist.

You’re skilled. You’re experienced. You’ve done the work. But if the right people can’t find you, none of it matters. This issue is about the one thing that creates opportunities: visibility.

Hey! welcome to the very first issue of Top Of Mind.

I’m glad you’re here. Before we get into this week’s big idea, I want to give you a quick heads up on what this newsletter is:

Every week – one big idea. No long lists. No fluff. Just one insight that could genuinely change how you show up and attract opportunities online. Actionable enough to win in 10 minutes. Valuable enough that you’ll want to share it.

Alright. Let’s go.

Talent Is Table Stakes. Visibility Is the Differentiator.

Here is a scenario that I need you to sit with for a second.

Right now, as you read this – there is a business owner somewhere searching LinkedIn, Googling services, and asking in communities for someone who does exactly what you do. They’re ready. They have a budget. They need help today.

But they are not going to find you.

Not because you’re not qualified. Not because your rates are too high. But because you are invisible.

💡 This Week’s Big Idea

You don’t lose clients to better competition.
You lose them to more visible competition.

This was me for years. I had real skills. Real results. But almost nobody knew I existed and the opportunities kept finding people with less experience who simply showed up more.

The market doesn’t reward the best talent it can’t see. It rewards the best talent it can find.

Read that last stat again. 1% of people post. 100% of the opportunity goes to them. That’s the gap. And it’s sitting wide open, waiting for you.

✦ This Week’s Shareable Truth ✦

“The internet doesn’t reward the most talented people.
It rewards the most visible ones.”

— Aamir Jolly, Top Of Mind

I Was the Best-Kept Secret Nobody Wanted to Keep.

In 2018, I was standing on my feet all day cutting fabric at a store in Pretoria earning R3,500 a month ($190). I had big dreams but no roadmap. By 2019, I’d founded Afroz Marketing and was grinding — graphic design, social media management, digital strategy, SEO, paid ads. I was learning and growing, quietly, every single day.

Then COVID hit. My workshop collapsed. Everything disappeared overnight. When things opened again, I ended up living with friends who supported me for nearly a year and a half. Seven months of that were completely unemployed.

One afternoon I picked up Gary Vaynerchuk’s Crushing It. One paragraph stopped me cold: after all these years building real skills in marketing, almost nobody knew what I could do. My LinkedIn was a ghost town. My expertise lived entirely in my own head. Meanwhile, people with less experience were landing the opportunities — simply because they were visible and I wasn’t.

That realisation changed everything. I stopped waiting to be discovered and started showing up. Today my LinkedIn is approaching 10,000 followers. Companies DM me asking to work together. I’ve worked inside the rooms of an international coach generating $500K+ per year. I attract inbound leads with very less cold outreach.

Nothing about my skills changed. My visibility did.

“I didn’t find a better strategy. I stopped being invisible. That was the whole strategy.”

The Visibility Window Is Open. But Not Forever.

LinkedIn now has over 1.1 billion members across 200+ countries. Three new people join every single second. 72% of recruiters actively use it to find talent. It’s the world’s largest professional opportunity machine.

But here’s the stat that should make you act today:

Only 1% of LinkedIn users post weekly.
Yet they get 9 billion impressions per week.
The other 99%? Almost invisible.

This is a gold rush and most people are sitting on the sideline watching. Thought leadership posts generate 6× more engagement than job posts. Video views on the platform are up 36% year-over-year. Profiles that list at least 5 skills get 17× more profile views.

The barrier to visibility has never been lower. The upside has never been higher. The only thing standing between you and opportunities is whether you decide to show up.

And look — I know the objections, because I had them all:

  • “Who am I to share advice online?” You’re the person who has lived the experience someone else desperately needs.

  • “I don’t know what to post.” You know more than you think. Every lesson you’ve learned is content.

  • “What if nobody engages?” What if the right client is watching every single post and never hits like, right up until the day they DM you to hire you?

A friend once told me when I was nervous to start creating: “Do any of those people come and put food on your table?” Meaning — the imaginary audience you’re afraid of? They’re not paying your bills. So stop letting them make your decisions.

Your 10-Minute Win This Week

The Visibility Audit. Do This Right Now.

Here’s the one thing I want you to do this week. It takes under 10 minutes and will immediately show you where you stand and what to fix first.

The 5-Step Visibility Audit

  • Google your full name right now. Open a new tab, type your name, hit search. What you see is exactly what a potential client or employer sees when they try to vet you. Screenshot it. Is that the professional you want them to find?

  • Read your LinkedIn headline out loud. Does it say what you do, who you help, and what result you create in under 10 seconds? If it says “Marketing Manager at XYZ” and nothing else, you’re leaving opportunity on the table. Rewrite it today.

  • Check your last post date. Scroll to the last time you posted original content on LinkedIn. If it was more than 30 days ago in the eyes of the algorithm and any visitor you don’t really exist.

  • Count your LinkedIn skills. Profiles with 5+ relevant skills listed get 17× more views. Go to your profile now. Add or update your top 5. Takes 3 minutes.

  • Write one post — not tomorrow, now. Share one thing you know that someone else needs to hear. One lesson from your career. One mistake you made. One shortcut you discovered. Publish it before you close this email.

Did you do all five? You’re already ahead of 99% of professionals on the platform. Because the barrier was never ability, it was action. You just took it.

🗺️ The Framework

Found → Followed → Paid. The Three Phases of Visibility.

Here’s the simple framework I use with every client. Visibility isn’t one thing, it’s a sequence. Most people try to jump straight to “paid” without building the foundation.

1. Get Found — Optimize Before You Post

Before you create a single piece of content, make sure the right people can find you when they’re searching. Your LinkedIn headline is your SEO. Your profile photo is your first impression. Your About section is your pitch. If these three things aren’t working, your content can’t work either.

→ This week: Rewrite your headline. Problem you solve + who you serve + result they get.

2. Get Followed — Content That Builds Trust

People don’t follow accounts. They follow people they trust. And trust is built through consistency, specificity, and genuine value. Not motivational quotes. Not reshared articles. Your actual perspective, your real experience, your honest take. Be specific about who you help and you’ll never run out of content.

→ This week: Post one thing your ideal client is already Googling. Answer it simply.

3. Get Paid — Make It Easy to Say Yes

Visibility converts when your offer is clear and your CTA is obvious. If someone reads your best post and doesn’t know what to do next — you’ve lost them. One clear offer. One next step. That’s it. Don’t make potential clients guess. Make the door easy to walk through.

→ This week: Add one clear CTA to your LinkedIn featured section. Book a call, join a room, send a DM.

I want to leave you with something I keep coming back to:

Visibility isn’t arrogance. It’s service. If you can genuinely help people and nobody knows you exist — they don’t get helped. The world loses. Show up.

Every single day, someone out there needs exactly what you offer. They’re searching. They’re scrolling. They’re asking for referrals. The only question is: will they find YOU or someone else?

That’s the whole game.

Your move.
